Lift heavy objects with care

We often have to lift heavy objects and it is common to hurt your back or strain yourself while doing so. Even picking up a child can cause this and the resulting low back pain can persist for days.

Lifting heavy objects therefore requires a few precautions:

1. Bend your knees, keep your back straight but do not bend. Many think, it is enough to squat when lifting the load, but that is not right. If your back is bent you will get hurt.

2.Your can bend at the waist slightly with your chest a little upright. This standard posture allows the back muscles to function properly. If knees are bent, then the leg and hip muscles help to move heavy items.3.Keep the centre of the heavy object close to your body. It is better to lift a one-gallon water jar close to your chest rather than only using hands.

4. Take help to share the weight. It is not safe to carry large, heavy objects a far distance using your shoulders.

Ship passengers became 'violently ill' on eight consecutive Princess Cruises journeys, lawyers charge

Passengers on a Princess Cruises ship sailing from Australia became "violently ill" from norovirus outbreaks on eight consecutive trips, lawyers charge. An Australian firm is mulling a class action lawsuit in connection to the incidents that took place on the Sun Princess from late 2016 to early 2017. "On my deck, every third cabin had a 'do not disturb sign' on it and there was constant cleaning of the ship," passenger William Noney said in a press release. "On one of the lunchtimes, an elderly passenger vomited with people all around him." Shine Lawyers say they are preparing a "large scale action" against Carnival Australia, which owns and operates Princess Cruises. The firm alleges that Princess Cruises and Carnival Australia did not "adequately disinfect and quarantine" the Sun Princess following the outbreaks.

Compound found in asparagus linked to spread of breast cancer

Asparagine, an amino acid found in asparagus and many other foods, was shown to aid in the spread of breast cancer to other organs of the body in mice, a new study published in the journal Nature found. But when a diet light in asparagine was introduced to the animals, the researchers said that the number of malignant tumors outside of the breast tissue, like those found in the bones, lungs and brain, — the number one cause of death in people with breast cancer — decreased dramatically. "This is a very promising lead and one of the very few instances where there is a scientific rationale for a dietary modification influencing cancer," the study's lead author, Greg Hannon, told The Guardian .
